Alloy 5005 is a member of the 5000 series of aluminium-magnesium wrought alloys which is non-heat-treatable 0.8% magnesium alloy commonly available in coil and sheets form. The 5000-series magnesium alloys have a high strengths because of the magnesium addition; 5005 has only a very small addition of magnesium so is the least strength of these series of alloys. The alloy is hardenable to a significant degree by cold working, enabling a series of “H” tempers but again these do not achieve the high strengths of corresponding tempers in other alloys such as 5052 or 5083.
|Alloy||Temper||Thickness (mm)||Width (mm)||Length (mm)||Remark|
|5005||O, H14, H24, H32, H34, H36, H38||0.5-240||500-2650||1000-11800||PVC or Paper Interleaved|
5005 aluminum sheet is used for electrical conductor wire, cooking utensils, appliances and widely used as sheet in decorative and architectural applications.
